Memorials in Chennai

     Rajiv Gandhi Memorial is raised in honour of Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India who was assassinated here by a human bomb in 1991. It is located at Sriperumbudur, 40 Kms from Chennai.

     The Rs. 21.15-crore memorial constructed at 12.19-acre by the Central Public Works Department, features seven pillars topped by a bronze capitol, each depicting Dharma, Truth, Justice, Science, Sacrifice, Shanti and Progress.

     His Excellency the President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam dedicated the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial to the Nation on October 10, 2003.
