Spencer Plaza, is a shopping mall located on Anna Salai (formerly known as Mount Road). This fully air conditioned Mall is the oldest shopping mall in India.

     In the year 1863-1864, this first Departmental store in the Indian subcontinent (comprising India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), was established by Charles Durant and J. W. Spencer.

     After a few years, Eugene Oakshott shifted the department store to a new building, which was an example of Indian Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The building was designed by W. N. Pogson.

     In the year 1985, the original building was destroyed in a fire. The present Spencer Plaza was constructed on the same site.

     It now comprises 3 phases, Phase I, Phase II and Phase III. The 7-storey building houses a variety of shops spread over 3 floors in 3 phases and office spaces that occupy the top floors.

     Here you can shop for almost everything from branded clothes, designer watches, books and DVDs, toys to leather goods, jewelry, domestic appliances, handicrafts and much more.


     You can also have wide variety of food at the various food courts and smaller restaurants that serve snacks like corn, chats, cookies, pizzas, baked items etc.
