     The mortal remains of Dr. C.N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was buried at the Anna Square. Dr. C.N. Annadurai former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, was affectionately called by the masses as Anna meaning the elder brother.

     It is located on Beach Road at the northern end of the Marina Beach opposite to the University of Madras. The Old entrance which is now shifted insdie has a spectacular contemporary-style arch in the shape of twin converging elephant tusks. The tomb is flanked by an imposing memorial pillar and eternal flame. A museum in memory Dr.Annadurai is situated at the rear end.


     Political leaders of all parties visit the square on Dr.Annadurai's birthdays, death anniversaries, and pay homage. Every day people from all over the world who visit chennai also visit the square and pay homage to their beloved brother.
